The community of Carlow is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old Janis Ghirghircic Ozols, who tragically died following an e-scooter accident and is being remembered for his “kind soul” and “beautiful smile.”
The incident occurred on Monday, June 29, at approximately 8:30 p.m., when Janis and another teenager were traveling on an e-scooter along Carpenters Way in Carlow Town. Both teens reportedly fell from the scooter during the incident.
Janis sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to St Luke’s Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital for further treatment. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he was later pronounced dead.
The second teenager, also in his late teens, was assessed at the scene and did not require immediate hospital treatment.
News of Janis’s passing has left his family, friends, and the wider Carlow community in deep mourning. Tributes have described him as a warm and kind-hearted young man whose presence brought joy to those around him.
A death notice shared by his family described him as the much-loved son of Liga and a cherished brother to Roman, Mark, Sandris, Rihards, Ruslan, and Kora, as well as a beloved stepson to Ingus.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced, with loved ones preparing to gather and honor his life.
