The horse racing world is mourning the loss of My Universe, a promising 4-year-old colt and winner of the 2026 Nikkei Sho (G2), who has died following acute heart failure.
My Universe had quickly emerged as one of Japan’s most exciting young Thoroughbreds, earning recognition for his talent and potential on the track. His standout victory in the 2026 Nikkei Sho marked a major milestone in a career that many believed was just beginning to unfold.
During the 2026 Takarazuka Kinen, My Universe was unable to finish the race after being pulled up. The Japan Racing Association later confirmed that he had passed away due to acute heart failure, bringing a sudden and heartbreaking end to a rising career.
Ridden by jockey Norihiro Yokoyama, My Universe was sired by Rey de Oro and out of Church Choir, making him a grandson of the legendary Neo Universe. This lineage drew attention not only from racing enthusiasts but also from fans of Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, where Neo Universe is represented as one of the franchise’s beloved characters. As a result, My Universe had built a unique following that bridged both real-world racing and popular culture.
His performances on the track showcased determination, strength, and promise, leaving fans eager to see what the future held. Though his time in racing was tragically short, the impact he made in such a brief span will not be forgotten.
My Universe will be remembered for his talent, his spirit, and the excitement he brought to racing fans across Japan and beyond.
Rest in peace, My Universe.
