Authorities in Park Ridge, Illinois, have charged a daycare employee following a disturbing incident involving a young child at a local childcare facility.
According to police, 29-year-old Olivia Cepeda of Glenview has been charged with aggravated battery to a child under the age of 13 after security camera footage allegedly showed her striking a 4-year-old child multiple times.
The incident occurred on Thursday at Kiddie Academy of Park Ridge, located at 109 South Washington Avenue. Police reports indicate that Cepeda allegedly struck the child in the chest and stomach while the child was lying on the floor.
The situation came to light after the daycare director and the child’s parent reported the incident to authorities. Law enforcement officials confirmed that staff at Kiddie Academy fully cooperated with the investigation.
Following the report, Cepeda was taken into custody and formally charged. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the child’s condition.
Her first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., where further proceedings in the case are expected.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
