R.I.P. LeRoy Irvin

Former NFL All-Pro cornerback LeRoy Irvin has passed away at the age of 68, leaving behind a powerful legacy as one of the most dynamic defensive players of his era.

A standout for the Los Angeles Rams throughout the 1980s, Irvin was known for his lockdown coverage, electrifying punt returns, and relentless competitiveness. Over 10 seasons with the Rams, he recorded 35 interceptions and scored 11 total touchdowns, cementing his place among the league’s elite.
Irvin earned three First-Team All-Pro selections and two Pro Bowl honors during his career. In 1981, he set an NFL record with 207 punt return yards in a single game — a performance still remembered as one of the most explosive in league history.
He later finished his NFL career with the Detroit Lions, continuing to showcase the talent and intensity that defined his time on the field.
News of his passing was shared on July 2, 2026, by his former teammate and Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson, who remembered him as “a true friend and a great man who always brought incredible energy.”
