A shocking incident in North Lauderdale, Florida, has left a community in mourning after 62-year-old Army veteran Bart Diguglielmo was fatally shot in a Walmart parking lot following what authorities say began as a dispute over a parking space.
According to reports, the confrontation occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday outside a Walmart store. Cellphone footage circulating online appears to show Diguglielmo exchanging heated words with a woman in the parking lot. As the situation escalated, he walked toward her while she backed away.
Moments later, the woman reportedly drew a firearm and shot Diguglielmo while he was still several feet away. The footage shows him clutching his abdomen before collapsing to the ground between parked vehicles.
Emergency responders transported Diguglielmo to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the woman appeared visibly distressed following the shooting, placing the weapon on a nearby car and remaining at the scene until law enforcement arrived. She was taken into custody and has reportedly claimed she acted in self-defense, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities have not yet announced whether charges will be filed, as investigators continue reviewing witness statements and video evidence to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Diguglielmo, a retired nurse and decorated Army veteran from Lauderhill, Florida, is being remembered by loved ones as a kind and caring individual. His daughter, Amanda, described him as a “good man” and expressed heartbreak over the tragedy.
“Nobody deserves to lose their life over a parking spot,” she said in an emotional interview, also disputing claims that her father had acted inappropriately during the encounter.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to establish exactly what led to the deadly confrontation.
